Extractions & Impactions

Extraction Meaning: Removal of a tooth from the mouth.

Types:

1. Simple extraction

Done when the tooth is visible and can be loosened with elevators and removed with forceps.

2. Surgical Extraction:

Extraction Required when the tooth is broken at the gumline, roots are curved, or it’s not easily accessible ; may involve cutting wall or gum.

3. Impaction:

Extraction When the tooth fails to erupt into its proper position in the dental arch within expected time, usually because of lack of space, obstruction, or wrong angulation.
